Aussie Coffee Guide (“we”) is a small independent site listing Australian cafés in US cities. This page explains, in plain English, what happens to your information when you use it. Aussie Coffee Guide is responsible for the information described here. Contact: hello@aussiecoffeeguide.com.
The short version
- No accounts, no ads, no tracking scripts. The only analytics is Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless. Our site doesn’t set cookies. (Google’s embedded map and any embedded Instagram post on café pages may set their own; see below.)
- If you use the Suggest a café form, we keep what you type so we can check the café.
- City maps are served from our own site. Café profile pages load an embedded Google map, and some may show an embedded Instagram post; those companies see your request.
What we collect
Suggest a café form
If you send a suggestion, we store: café name, city, the link you give, your reason, your email (optional), the time, and your country as worked out by our host from your connection (not your exact location). This is stored with Cloudflare (Workers KV) and deleted automatically after 180 days, or sooner if we’re done with it.
To limit spam, we also keep a counter tied to your IP address for 24 hours, so one address can’t send more than 5 suggestions a day. It’s deleted automatically after 24 hours.
We use your email only to follow up on your suggestion. We don’t add you to a mailing list or share it.
Emails to us
If you email us, we keep the email so we can reply.
“Near me”
The Near me button asks your browser for your location to sort cafés by distance. It’s only used inside your browser for that page: it isn’t sent to us or stored. You can say no, and you can withdraw permission in your browser settings at any time.
Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views and see which pages are useful and how fast they load. It doesn’t use cookies or local storage, doesn’t fingerprint you, and doesn’t track you across sites. A small script from Cloudflare (static.cloudflareinsights.com) reports the page address, referring page, browser and device type, country (worked out from your IP address) and page-load timing. We only see totals. See Cloudflare’s Web Analytics privacy information and privacy policy.
What other companies see
- Cloudflare hosts the site. Like any web host, it processes your IP address and basic request details (such as browser type and the page requested) to deliver pages and protect against abuse. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
- City maps. The maps on city pages use Protomaps tiles built from OpenStreetMap data, which we host on our own site (through Cloudflare). No map company receives your request when a city map loads.
- Google. Café profile pages include an embedded Google map (Google Maps Embed API) for each location, which shows Google’s own place details, rating and reviews. It loads only when you scroll to it, and it comes straight from Google: Google sees your IP address and browser details and may set cookies, under the Google Privacy Policy. We use Google place IDs only to link to and embed the right place; we don’t copy or store Google’s ratings, reviews, hours or phone numbers. “Google Maps” and “Directions” links take you to Google Maps.
- Instagram (Meta). Some café pages may show one of the café’s public Instagram posts using Instagram’s official embed. The post loads automatically when you scroll near it. At that point your browser contacts Instagram, which sees your IP address and browser details and may set cookies, under Meta’s Privacy Policy. If you follow a link to a café’s Instagram or website, their own privacy policies apply.
What we don’t do
We don’t sell or rent personal information, run advertising, build profiles, or use your information for anything other than running this guide.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to show you, correct or delete anything you sent through the form or by email. Contact hello@aussiecoffeeguide.com and we’ll handle it promptly. Depending on where you live, privacy laws may give you more rights; we’ll honour them.
Children
The site isn’t aimed at children, and we don’t knowingly collect information from children.
Changes
If we change how we handle information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top first.
