About: how cafés are chosen

Last updated 16 Oct 2026

Aussie Coffee Guide lists Australian cafés in US cities. Every listing goes through the same process.

Who qualifies

A café must be Australian-owned or Australian-founded, or clearly Aussie-style (flat whites, an Aussie menu, an Australian roaster). It must be open when we check. Each listing says which kind of Aussie connection it has.

We’re a locator, not a review site. We find Aussie-owned, Aussie-founded and Aussie-style cafés and show you where they are. We don’t rank or judge them. We don’t show ratings on our pages. Café profile pages include Google’s own map card for each location, so you can see Google’s rating and reviews there and decide for yourself.

How facts are sourced

  • Address, opening status and Aussie link come from the café’s own website or from dated press. Every listing links its sources.
  • We don’t copy or store Google ratings, reviews, hours or phone numbers. Café profile pages show Google’s own map card for each location, where Google displays its rating and reviews. Hours and phone numbers come only from the café’s own website or Instagram; otherwise we say “Check with café”.
  • Cafés with several sites are one entry, e.g. “Great White (6 locations)”. Suburbs are counted under the nearest city.
  • Each café gets a one-line verdict, written only from sourced facts.
  • Listings aren’t ranked.

Re-checks

We re-check every listing monthly. Closed cafés are removed. The date of the last check is on each city page.

Aussie badges

Every listing carries one badge, always written out in words (the colour is just a helper):
BadgeWhat it means
Aussie-owned (green)A credible public source says it’s Australian-owned or run by Australians: the café’s own website or Instagram, or press. Media praise isn’t required.
Aussie roots (amber)A clear Australian link from public sources (for example a team that ran cafés in Australia, an Australian roaster, an Aussie menu) but no public source yet that says it’s Australian-owned or run by Australians. Moves to Aussie-owned once one does.
Aussie-style (grey)Aussie-style coffee or menu without a confirmed Australian owner. Not published at the moment.

The same colours and labels are used on map pins and city-page keys. Badges aren’t rankings.

Money and connections

  • No paid placement without a clear “Sponsored” label. Paying never buys a listing or a ranking.
  • Affiliate links, if we use them, are disclosed on the page.
  • If we have a personal connection to a café, its listing says so.

Privacy and terms

Read our Privacy Policy (what we collect: very little) and Terms of Use, including the Google Maps terms that apply to the maps on café profiles.
